A good book that traces the basic elements of great philosophers. In between discussion of each man’s p This was swrtre the book I was looking for after years of aimlessly reading philosophy and being exposed to it only superficially in school. The book is well-organized, thorough within this context, and quite enjoyable to read for anyone interested in the history of philosophy. I really learned a lot from this book. I would have liked to see more female philosophers though. Philosophy is one of those fields that so many people seem to have a strong interest in, yet hesitate to from socrates to sartre lavine into on account of its perceived obscurity and abstractness.

For anyone wrestling with such anxieties, I highly recommend this work, as it is a wonderfully approachable introduction to Western socrtaes thought and history.
